If you wanted to explain to an LA dancer what to change to become more PR style, you might suggest the following...

- Take out the tricks, flips, lifts, hollywood show stuff.

- Swap positions correctly with your partner to keep the slot tight and small (in LA style the guy moves the girl from one end of the slot to the other, while staying in the middle himself more often. This tends to lengthen the slot).

- Remove the idea of an absolutely fixed slot. Add a little freedom to the moves and steps.

- Move around the room more like Cuban style (optional).

- Take out the long extensions of the arms used to extend the slot.

- Present the girl at different angles rather than presenting her hollywood style (side on) at the end of the slot (Dance is not about show).

- Turn yourself fluidly and smoothly (use all the beats), not sharp on 6 and 7.

- Take all your basic steps properly (LA stylers purposely don't take all steps).

- No power-ups or power-downs! (Fast high-tension slingshots through the slot).

- Lead/follow lightly and smoothly.

- Take out the sharp breaks, dropping down on 1, and sharp accents on 1 and 5.

- Make your styling soft and flowy (Not sharp and straight lines).

- Dance for yourself and the girl, not an audience.

- Accentuate the rhythms of the music, not drama, with your body and feet.

What you would get is somewhere closer to NY style but with Cuban style influences.
